ASC EATS: THE SOUTHERN V

Whenever I think of fried chicken, I think of good smells, crispy batter, good times, and....meat. Except, I'm vegetarian.

"The Southern V"

One of the drawbacks of being vegetarian includes not fully experiencing places like "Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles," or having an eggs and bacon breakfast--unless I minus the bacon. And what's the fun in that?

Do I regret it? Not at all! It's a personal choice I've made for a long time that I'm completely happy with.

But new flash!! Just because you're veggie (or vegan) doesn't mean you can't eat food that tastes and looks good!

How do I know? Well, while visiting lovely Nashville, TN a few weeks ago, I, along with two of my girlfriends visited "The Southern V," a completely vegan, black-owned, soul-food restaurant featuring one of my favorite concepts--chicken and waffles!

There are a great deal of options on the menu, so there is plenty to chose from! Being that my favorite meal of the day is breakfast, I had to go with brunch!

At first I was skeptical, thinking there's no way this could possibly be vegan and tasty. WRONG! Not only was it tasty, it was inexpensive as well! After sampling my friend's tofu scramble and biscuit and homemade blueberry jam, I had some of that as well. Right next to the delicious vegan "fried chicken" was the biscuits. Those were definitely some "slap yo mama!" biscuits!

(Don't understand the reference? That's ok. Basically that means they were REALLY, REALLY, GOOD).

In addition to the great food, I appreciated that the place was quaint and aesthetically pleasing, featuring small nooks for customers to grab a bite to eat, chat with friends, and just chill.

If you're ever in Nashville, make sure to check this place out--vegan or not. Be warned however; it is POPULAR. Make sure you plan ahead and bring your appetite!

FINGER-LICKIN' GOOD!

Happy eating!
