5 Household Updates You Can Make To Save Money in the Spring

In a less than stable economy, saving as much as you are able to is goals. But where do you start? If you’ve adopted a certain lifestyle, it can seem difficult; however, if you’re looking for small, practical ways to cut costs, you might be surprised to find there are more than you thought around your house! In this month I’ll be sharing with you several ways my family is optimizing our home and saving money as we move into the Spring season. Here are five things you can consider as starting points:

  1. Ensure your windows and doors are properly sealed. This saves money on heating/cooling. A jar of caulk and some weather-stripping can go a long way with this.

  2. Organize your space. If you know where things are, you don’t have to spend time looking for them, and can accurately account for how much you have and need/don’t need, ultimately saving money, as well as time…which is money!

  3. Install rugs and hang art—this might seem silly, but have you ever been in a home that didn’t have these items? What did it feel like? Likely, it was cold! Hanging art and installing rugs (if you don’t already have them) helps physically warm the space, and helps in a small way with temperature fluctuations.

  4. Install drapes/window treatments—this is very helpful in maintaining cooler temperatures as they rise in early Spring, and helping to warm a darker room in the Winter.

  5. If fiscally possible, install/replace your appliances with energy-saving ones. This can significantly reduce your utility bills, and many regions offer rebates for those who make the switch.

What others do you utilize? Let me know! Next week I’ll be talking about 5 more things in the outdoors category that you can optimize to help stretch your dollars.
